European Mountain Ranges



Ural Mountains - Montes Urales
  • They are in Russia.
  • They form a natural border between Europe and Asia.
  • They are Europe´s longest mountain range.

The Alps - Los Alpes
  • They are Europe´s highest mountain range.
  • They are in seven european countries including: France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
  • The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc located in France and Italy.


Scandinavian Mountains - Montes Escandinavos
  • They are on a peninsula in the north of Europe.
  • They are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world.
  • They form a natural border between Norway and Sweden.
Pyrenees - Los Pirineos
  • They stretch from the Mediterranean Sea in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the west.
  • They form a natural border between Spain and France.
  • The highest peak is Pico de Aneto in Aragon, Spain.
Carpathian Mountains - Montes Cárpatos
Apennines - Montes Apeninos
  • They are in Italy.
  • The highest mountain is Corno Grande 
  • They have three main parts: the Northern Apennines, the Central Apennines and the Southern Apennines.

Volga River - Río Volga
  • The Volga River is the longest river in Europe
  • Flows into the Caspian Sea.
  • The river is often frozen for several months of the year.


The Danube - Río Danubio
  • Danube is Europe’s second longest river, after the River Volga.
  • It flows from the Black Forest in Germany to the Black Sea.
  • The Danube flows through or flows along the borders of 10 countries.


The Rhine - Río Ródano
  • The Rhine is the longest river in Germany.
  • It is still a major European transport route today.
  • The Rhine forms a natural border between Germany and France.


The Po - Río Po
  • The longest river in Italy is the Po.
  • During prehistoric times the lower valley of the Po was inhabited by Paleolithic.
  • Near the end of its course, it creates a wide delta.


The Seine - Río Sena
  • The Seine flows through Paris, the capital city of France.
  • The Seine is connected to the River Rhine by the River Marne. The Seine is also linked to Belgium’s waterways.
  • There are more than 30 bridges over the Seine in Paris.


The Rhone - Río Ródano


The Elbe - Río Elba
  • After the Rhine, the Elbe River is Germany's most significant commercial waterway. 
  • The Elbe rises on the Czech Republic's border with Poland.
  • At Hamburg it flows into the North Sea.
